The Lyrical Lantern

This piece is formed from floor level with a tri-formed ascending base. This tri-formed base meets a turned collar supporting a spherical double jointed friction block on a turned multi-wood ball with tightening friction lever. This allows the Double-Lyre head to tilt for the music sheets. The sheet music is supported by two  intricate, hand turned spring loaded ebony  barrels - a lever-arm  magically pulls out to support the sheet music, and when not in use springs back into its ebony barrel.

A beautiful hand-worked masterpiece with a commanding presence giving an uplifting presence of the eternal.

The Satinwood and Ebony version was commissioned by the Trustees of the Yehudi Menuhin School of Music as a special leaving presentation gift to the former Headmaster, Nicholas Chisholm MBE.

The original concept & prototype of this piece was designed & made for an important client.

Only three have been made to date, the first two in Satinwood with Ebony details the other one  being constructed from solid English Walnut with Pink Ivorywood detailing… a great combination of rare woods. Both variants - Satinwood + Ebony and English Walnut + Pink Ivorywood have been sold.

This piece was awarded a prestigious Craft Guildmark award by the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers for excellence in design and craftsmanship. A copy of this certificate goes with the piece.
